The Benefits of CNG

Compressed natural gas, or CNG, is now becoming the alternative fuel of choice for many Americans. A report by Natural Gas Vehicles for America reveals natural gas vehicles, or NGVs, in the country now number more than 120,000. Overseas, there are now more than 8.7 million natural gas vehicles. These figures will continue to rise as more and more people discover the advantages of CNG to gasoline or diesel.

CNG is less expensive

  • On average CNG is 1/3 the cost of gas
  • Readily available in the United States
  • 85% of CNG is produced domestically
  • Reduces dependence on foreign oil

CNG is efficient

  • Significantly higher octane rating
  • Allows for higher compression ratios
  • Clean-burning with little or no residue
  • Less wear on engine components
  • Longer life and less maintenance

CNG is environmentally friendly

  • Produces less exhaust than gas
  • 70% less carbon monoxide

CNG is safer

  • Dissipates into the air in case of leaks
  • Narrow range of flammability
  • Non-toxic and non-corrosive
  • Not a threat to soil or groundwater
